Safe Places Core Training

Safe Places runs extensive training for all of our employees.

Youth Worker Induction

All staff members complete 21 hours Youth Worker Induction, including topics such as an overview of Safe Places, the Child Protection industry, supporting young people with complex needs from diverse backgrounds.

Case Manager Induction

Case Managers attend an additional 14 hours induction, covering leadership, delegation, supervision, child protection system, household budgets and internal auditing processes.

Therapeutic Crisis Intervention

All staff attend and maintain up to date Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification. The program is run in-house by certified TCI instructors over 22 hours.

The TCI system is designed to provide the skills, knowledge and confidence direct care workers need in order to deal with children and young people in crisis, and to be in control of the situation in order to bring about growth. It is a crisis prevention and intervention model.

Management Seminars

Safe Places invests in professional, practice, and leadership development to identify, support and promote the development of each member of our team. Most Management Seminars are delivered by MBA qualified and experienced lecturers on topics such as:

Cultural Awareness Training

All staff are provided with Cultural Awareness Training. The training is run over 2 days in FNQ Zone and over 1 day in all other regions and covers topics such as:

  • Indigenous history, cultures & Peoples
  • Non-indigenous & Indigenous attitudes towards each other and how they are formed
  • Cross cultural behaviour
  • Understanding past & current government impacts on Indigenous Australians FNQ Specific
  • Understanding legislative impacts
  • Cape York Aboriginal & Torres Strait Cultures
  • Understanding Indigenous lands, Country & Boundaries
  • Interacting sensitively with indigenous families & stakeholders including Rural & remote areas.

Trainers

Tom Kirk
An award winning Indigenous Consultant, Tom is highly skilled in cross cultural communication, having delivered programs across Australia since 1993. He has a unique and very effective style of delivering Cultural Awareness. Tom is an Aboriginal man of the Gurreng-Gurreng (Western Burnett River District – QLD) and the Birri Gubba peoples (Burdekin River District - QLD).
